ARCADIA, Okla. (KOCO) — A family is without a home after a fire possibly started by a propane tank explosion broke out Monday morning near Lake Hiwassee in Arcadia.

The fire broke out around 8 a.m. at a home near Hiwassee Road and Anderson Road, where neighbors woke up to heavy smoke. Firefighters told KOCO 5 that a propane tank explosion possibly played a role.

“When first-arriving (crew) got here, I believe it was Fire Engine Five, they had fire flowing through the roof at that time and had a small collapse on the back side of the structure,” Edmond Assistant Fire Chief Brian Davis said.

Sky 5 flew over the scene, showing the damage – including a large hole in the roof – from above.

Firefighters said the home may be a total loss, and they’re working to confirm the cause of the fire.

“They thought it was a propane tank,” Davis said. “So, we’re trying to figure out whether it was or not. The initial call came in from the neighbor to the west.”

No one was home when the fire started, and the homeowners have been notified.
