UPDATE (8:47 p.m.) — El Paso Electric says strong winds may have caused damage to electrical lines in the area near the airport.

“El Paso Electric crews responded and completed repairs,” a spokesperson told ABC-7. “Power to the airport was restored by rerouting service, minimizing the duration of the interruption for customers.”

UPDATE (6:19 p.m.) — According to the El Paso Electric power outage map, the power outage impacting the area near the airport has been resolved.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) — The El Paso International Airport said it lost power in parts of its terminal, according to a Facebook post Tuesday.

The airport said travelers should check their airline for the latest flight information before heading to the airport.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KVIA) — One woman was airlifted from Las Cruces to an El Paso hospital in critical condition after a crash Tuesday, according to the Las Cruces Police Department.

Police said they went to the intersection of El Paseo Road and Farney Lane to respond to a crash involving two vehicles.

The woman was trapped inside a Nissan Juke, and firefighters helped her out, according to a news release. She was sent to a Las Cruces hospital then airlifted to El Paso.

Police said she remains hospitalized but is in stable condition.

Investigators said a 20-year-old woman driving a Honda Accord hit the woman in the Nissan, according to police. She Honda’s driver also went to a nearby hospital with “relatively minor injuries.”

Additionally, one of the drivers may have ran a red light, according to police. The woman driving the Nissan also didn’t wear her seatbelt at the time of the crash, which may have contributed to her injuries.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) — Shaquille O’Neal — under the name “DJ Diesel” — will perform at a Northeast El Paso Bar come September, according to a social media post he made Tuesday.

His stop in the Sun City is one of just four in Texas.

The former basketball player also goes by the stage name DJ Diesel. He’ll perform at the 11:11 bar on Dyer Street Sept. 17. Tickets go on sale Wednesday at 10 a.m.

“I usually come to Texas once a year for my festival… but this year we’re mixing it up and doing a full Texas Takeover,” Shaq wrote online.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) — Tuesday, a truck crashed into a University Medical Center laboratory on Alberta Avenue, according to a spokesperson.

According to a UMC El Paso spokesperson, there was no immediate danger to patients, staff or operations.

Employees in the area and those inside the truck were being evaluated out of an abundance of caution.

Additionally, a structural engineer and city inspectors are looking into the damage done to the building. ABC-7 captured video of a hole in the wall where the truck hit.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KVIA) — A Silver City man has been charged with threatening a U.S. Forest Service officer at a Las Cruces court after a sentencing hearing, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Mexico said Tuesday.

Court documents alleged that on June 11, 55-year-old Fred Andrew Berry appeared in a Las Cruces federal court for a sentencing hearing related to previous violations on U.S. Forest Service land, the attorney’s office said.

After the hearing, a U.S. Forest Service officer attending court approached Berry to issue two citations: one for keeping a campfire during fire restrictions and one for improperly disposing trash, a news release said.

After receiving the citations, Berry allegedly threatened the officer, the attorney’s office said.

Documents alleged Berry said, “Just know that if I see you in the streets, you’re a dead terrorist b****.”

Officials said a Bureau of Land Management ranger and a courtroom security officer witnessed the alleged dthreat.

The courtroom security officer heard Berry allegedly say, “I said what I said,” when asked whether the statement was a threat, according to the news release.

Berry is charged with making threats to a federal law enforcement officer and will remain in custody pending trial. If convicted, he faces up to two years in prison.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) — Tuesday, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was ordered to temporarily stop vehicle stops in Texas and Maine following two deadly shootings involving the agency, ABC News reported.

Congresswoman Veronica Escobar released a statement responding to the order:

“The reported decision by ICE to pause vehicle stops is a good first step. At least 22 people have been fired on by agents involved in Trump’s mass deportation plans, and six people, including three American citizens, have been killed in those shootings. The murders of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston last week and Joan Sebastian Guerrero in Biddeford yesterday were preventable tragedies.

“There are additional changes that must be made immediately to safeguard communities: the use of body cameras, independent investigations into the shootings, and accountability that will bring justice for the families who lost their loved ones.” 

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin reportedly gave the directive, according to ABC News.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) — Downtown El Paso’s skyline is undergoing some change. Monday, the iconic Wells Fargo letters started being removed from the building.

It appeared crews used a platform connected to cables to take the letters off.

Wells Fargo closed its Downtown El Paso branch in January 2025, as ABC-7 previously reported.

Other lines of business will operate in the building, according to Wells Fargo vice president and communications lead for Texas and Oklahoma Ty Morrison.

In October 2024, Morrison said the company leased the Downtown space and the building management would determine what would happen with the branch space.

The building displays certain colors during holidays. For example, the a Christmas tree pattern appears on the side of the building during the holiday season. It will also shine red, white and blue during Independence Day.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) — The Daw family, former owners of Chop, the dog allegedly shot and killed by a U.S. Border Patrol agent in El Paso last September, is seeking justice and accountability from the federal government.

As ABC-7 reported yesterday, a federal lawsuit has been filed against the U.S. government alleging that a Border Patrol agent shot and killed a dog inside a home in El Paso last year.

The law firm Singleton Schreiber, LLP filed the suit on behalf of Seth Daw; the complaint includes claims of assault, personal injury, conversion, trespass, and negligence.

Today, ABC-7 spoke with Marisa Ong of Singleton Schreiber, LLP, representing the Daw family, and with the owner’s father to learn more details about the lawsuit and the next steps in the legal process.

The Daw family created a petition asking the El Paso District Attorney’s Office to also investigate the case; you can read it here.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) — It was been nearly two weeks since El Paso native and U.S. Marine, Christopher Steven, was shot and killed at a Walgreens in West El Paso.

Anna Kuba married Steven in July 2023. The two met while he was deployed in Okinawa, Japan — Kuba’s hometown.

Since his death, Kuba has been asking the community to financially help her and her family.

According to her GoFundMe, Kuba’s family “faces significant out-of-pocket costs for travel, hotel stays, car rentals and funeral arrangements.”

Now, a proper memorial for Steven is on the horizon.

The family announced his viewing will take place July 15 at 5 p.m. at the Funerari del Angel funeral home in Central El Paso. His full service will be the following day at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church at 8 a.m. on Alabama Street.

The family also confirmed his burial will be Thursday following a service at Fort Bliss Cemetery at 9:30 a.m.

ABC-7 spoke with Kuba and her family about Steven’s impact on them them and what they hope his services will accomplish.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KVIA) — Las Cruces firefighters put out a fire on N Mesquite Street Monday night.

Crews went to the 700 block of N Mesquite Street, near the intersection with E Lucero Avenue, and saw heavy fire and smoke coming from a detached garage, according to the Las Cruces Fire Department.

Crews controlled the fire within 17 minutes and prevented it from spreading, according to the fire department.

Nobody was found in the surrounding area and LCFD said nobody was injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
