Iowa Hawkeyes honor Ellie Walker as Kid Captain after her battle with rare brain cancer

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCCI) — Ellie Walker, a 4-year-old girl from Clinton who fought a rare form of brain cancer, is being honored by the Iowa Hawkeyes as Kid Captain during their game against Northwestern.
Ellie spent more than a year undergoing intense treatment at the Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
She reached remission this spring, but her cancer returned just weeks later. Ellie passed away on July 6.
This weekend, the Hawkeyes are celebrating the courage and joy she brought to so many lives.
The Iowa Hawkeyes face the Northwestern Wildcats on Saturday in Evanston, Illinois. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. on FOX.
