Elephant Butte businesses at risk as water levels reach historic low

ELEPHANT BUTTE, N.M. (KVIA) – Elephant Butte business owners worry for their livelihoods as low water levels resulted in fewer tourists this summer.
While heavy rainfall slightly increased Elephant Butte Lake’s levels, some tourists skipped the opportunity to visit the area.
Now, Elephant Butte Mayor Richard Holcomb has been looking for ways to keep the town alive through tourism.
ABC-7’s Nina Gallegos spoke with Elephant Butte residents who said the lower water levels shouldn’t put local businesses at risk.
