KRDO13’s Season of Sharing Food Drive collects over 20,000 pounds of food
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) – Our viewers showed up in force Thursday at American Furniture Warehouse, where our crew collected a total of 26,366 pounds of food benefiting the Care and Share Food Bank.
As of our 6 p.m. newscast Thursday night, volunteers were working on filling their 16th full pallet of food. Each pallet holds a little over 1000 pounds. Care and Share CEO Nate Springer said it will fill an entire semi-truck.
Care and Share is still working on calculating the entire haul. Monetary donations will be included in the total. Springer said each dollar will fund 2.5 meals for families.
It’s been a tough couple of years for Colorado families. The government shutdown and federal funding cuts hit families hard last Thanksgiving, but Springer said there are actually more people in their system than a year ago, and less food to go around.
Our food collection may be over, but it’s not too late to help out if you missed us. Click here to donate and help feed hungry Colorado families this holiday season.
