ANDERSON COUNTY, South Carolina (WYFF) — A South Carolina Department of Natural Resources officer is being credited with saving his elderly neighbors when their home caught fire.
SCDNR said Will Sutton was home having dinner with his family before night patrol on Oct. 24 when his son alerted him that a neighboring house was on fire.
Sutton immediately notified dispatch, requested emergency assistance, and rushed to the burning home in Anderson County.
After getting inside the smoke-filled house, Sutton found a woman, whom he knew was bedridden, lifted her from her bed, and carried her to safety across the street.
Sutton then re-entered the burning home to rescue the second resident, who had gone back inside in confusion.
Before leaving, Sutton also grabbed several irreplaceable personal belongings, including the couple’s Bible and two wedding photos.
