ROSEVILLE, Minnesota (WCCO) — Police in Roseville, Minnesota, say they’ve made an arrest after a woman was kidnapped and assaulted on Wednesday.

Officers arrested a 41-year-old man from Isanti Friday “on suspicion of multiple felony offenses,” police say, alleging he wore a mask while forcing a woman at gunpoint into a vehicle as she left a business near East Snelling Service Drive and County Road C around 5 p.m.

“The circumstances of the incident were particularly concerning because the woman did not know the suspect and the reported attack occurred during the late afternoon in a busy area of Roseville,” police said in a statement released Saturday.

The woman told police the man let her go hours later on St. Paul’s east side. She was later hospitalized for undisclosed injuries.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security assisted in the investigation, police say, and “provided critical investigative resources and assistance following leads, reviewing information, and identifying and locating the suspect.”

Police say they expect to file charges with the county attorney’s office “early next week,” and are withholding more information on the investigation due to its “extremely complex” nature.

“We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding while we remain focused on completing this investigation,” police said.

Tanner Christopherson works just down the road from where the kidnapping occurred.

“I’ve never seen anything like that in the five years I’ve been working out of our warehouse here,” Christopherson said. “It’s really troubling that that happened at that time, especially with all those people around, too.”

Data shows that there have been 435 recorded kidnappings or abductions in Ramsey County since 2021. Just 19 of those happened in Roseville, not including Wednesday’s case. Almost all of those kidnappings happened at a home or a hotel, and in all but one, the two people knew each other.

BUFFALO, Minnesota (WCCO) — Federal authorities are investigating after a small plane crashed northwest of the Twin Cities late Sunday afternoon.

The Federal Aviation Administration says a replica Piper PA-18 crashed while departing from Buffalo Municipal Airport around 4:20 p.m. Officials stated two people were on board, but did not immediately report their condition.

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are in charge of the investigation.

Witnesses tell WCCO the plane was headed to Montana, and they saw emergency crews take one person away immediately by ambulance. Later, crews used a tarp to cover parts of the wreckage.

The FAA is supposed to post a preliminary accident report which they say is usually within one business day of the incident occurring.

Buffalo is located about 42 miles northwest of Minneapolis.

CHICAGO, Illinois (WBBM) — The Chicago Police Foundation hosted its fourth annual Scholarship Award Luncheon in Honor of Officer Ella French on Sunday afternoon.

It took place around 12:30 p.m. at the Morgan Arts Complex at 3600 South Morgan Street.

Fifty scholarships were presented to kids of Chicago officers and those who are enrolled in CPD programs.

As part of the application process, the students were asked to write an essay reflecting on how officer French continues to serve as an example for the city.

Officer French was shot and killed in the line of duty during a traffic stop in August of 2021.

French’s mother, Elizabeth, worked alongside CPD leaders to make the scholarship possible.

“I have every faith that deep down your life path, you’re going to do wonderful things that are going to make this world a better place for everyone and I want to congratulate each and every one of you. You are rock stars,” she told the recipients.

Each student received a $2,000 scholarship to support their educational journey.

Fighter jets intercept aircraft that violate airspace during President Trump’s Chicago-area visit

CHICAGO, Illinois (WBBM) — There was a scramble in the skies Sunday tied to President Trump’s visit to the Chicago area.

Fighter jets intercepted multiple planes that violated flight restrictions the Federal Aviation Administration put in place due to the president’s visit. Witnesses caught videos of the jets in the skies, apparently armed and ready to handle any threat.

The North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD, said 15 general aviation aircraft, a category that includes private planes and helicopters, entered airspace that was supposed to be restricted while the president was in town.

Fighter jets performed intercepts to redirect 10 pilots. In two instances, the jets fired flares to get the pilots’ attention and forced them to change course.

NORAD said the flares may have been visible to the public, but always burn out quickly and completely and pose no danger to anyone on the ground.

NORAD said all the situations were safely resolved, and no one was hurt.

Nearly 1,800 flights were delayed at O’Hare International Airport on Sunday. It was unclear late Sunday whether those delays were because of flight restrictions or a nor’easter hitting the East Coast.

President Trump on Sunday paid a visit to the Medinah Country Club outside of Chicago for the last day of the Presidents Cup golf tournament, serving as the honorary chairman. His presence in the Chicagoland area brought crowds of supporters and protesters.

DALLAS, Texas (KTVT) — The State Fair of Texas is in full swing!

This year, fairgoers can expect lower prices in parking, admission, and food. Taylor Pulfer, Director of Communications for the fair, says they “listened to the fairgoers’ feedback” and reduced prices.

Parking was reduced by $5, making it $25. Children ages 3 to 12 can get in for just $10, and Monday through Thursday, everyone gets in for $10 after 5 p.m.

When it comes to food, Pulfer says they worked with vendors to bring fairgoers lower prices, and many vendors offered $10 value meals.

“We want families to be able to come out here, bring their kids, feed everyone, leave full, leave happy,” said Josey Nevins, co-owner, Nevins Concessions.

You can also check the state fair website to see what other discounts are going on

“If you’re a foodie, come out on Thursdays. If you are a ride lover, come out on Tuesdays,” said Pulfer.

For 140 years now families have been snapping pictures with Big Tex. Pulfer says they typically see more than 2 million people on average.

Opening weekend brought in people from all over. One family told CBS Texas they drove all the way from San Antonio.

“We try to make the state fair every year, especially opening weekend,” said David Jordan.

Saturday’s game at the Cotton Bowl also drew football fans for the Grambling State versus Prairie View A&M matchup.

The fair goes on till October 18th, swing by and say Howdy to Big Tex!

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (KDKA) — A man was critically injured after police said a woman intentionally struck him with a vehicle in Pittsburgh’s Homewood North neighborhood on Sunday afternoon.

Pittsburgh police from Zone 5 were called shortly before 4 p.m. to the intersection of Stranahan Street and Myrtle Avenue for a report of a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian.

Officers found an adult male with substantial injuries to his lower extremities that were consistent with being struck by a vehicle, police said.

The victim told officers he had been inside the vehicle with an adult woman before the crash. Police said the two got into an argument, after which the man exited the vehicle.

The woman then got into the driver’s seat and intentionally ran the man over, according to police. The woman proceeded to flee the scene on foot and abandoned the vehicle.

The victim was taken to a hospital in critical condition. No arrest was immediately reported, as the investigation remains ongoing.
