ABC-7 joins We Hike’s morning veteran suicide prevention walk — you can too
September is national suicide month.
Local organizations are coming together to raise awareness, especially for our military families.
Good Morning El Paso’s Nicole Ardila goes live with We Hike President and Founder Lisa Enriquez to share why they’re hosting a veteran suicide prevention walk on Thursday morning.
This is We Hike’s second annual free, beginner-friendly hike or urban walk honoring and celebrating veterans while bringing awareness to veteran suicide and discussing the importance of National Suicide Prevention Month.
We Hike says it is about “connection, community, and reminding one another that no one has to walk alone.”
The walk begins at 6:45 a.m. and it will be followed by veteran-led yoga at 8:15 a.m. from Warrior at Ease instructor Lakisha DeVone Cortinas.
They recommend you bring:
At least 1 liter of water Sunscreen, yoga mat towel or chair A good hat for sun protection Good hiking or walking shoes with traction for rocky terrain Snacks Any personal medications you may need
If you miss it, their second event will be an evening sunset walk on Monday, Sept. 21 at 6:45 p.m. on an accessible paved path, followed by sunset yoga at 8 p.m.
Both events are at Chuck Heinrich Memorial Park on 11055 Loma Del Norte Dr.
Pet-friendly dogs must remain on a leash.
