SHINGLETOWN, California (KSBW) — The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office says a murder suspect was arrested in connection with the alleged killing of an 87-year-old man.

Deputies say they responded to the 7100 block of Kysie Rae Court in Shingletown for a welfare check at around 3:52 p.m.

The reporting party said they had not seen 87-year-old Thomas Anthony Cuneo for several weeks.

Deputies who arrived for the welfare check found Cuneo dead inside the home.

Police said they believe Cuneo was killed after suffering multiple stab wounds, according to an autopsy completed on June 12, 2026.

“The circumstances at the scene, including evidence of significant trauma, indicated the death was the result of a homicide. Detectives and investigative technicians from the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office responded and processed the residence,” the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office said in a social media post.

Investigators determined that the suspect in this case, 28-year-old Jordan Newton Moore, was the victim’s live-in caregiver.

Witnesses said Moore had not been seen at the home for several weeks and that Thomas’ vehicle was also missing.

An arrest warrant was obtained on Friday for first-degree murder.

Then on Sunday, the suspect was found and arrested in Marina by the Marina Police Department.

Moore is awaiting extradition back to Shasta County and remains in custody at the Monterey County Jail.
