YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) – Lerner and Rowe distributed one thousand free Thanksgiving meal kits to Yuma-area residents during a community event at the Yuma County Fairgrounds.

The kits included traditional holiday staples such as vegetables, stuffing, and mashed potatoes. In addition to the meal kits, the organization provided grocery store gift cards so families could purchase their preferred main course.

“We’re trying to make sure that all these people that are here today are able to have that loving, wonderful, supportive Thanksgiving meal with their loved ones and friends and family,” said Kevin Rowe, founder of Lerner and Rowe.

He added that the gift cards were intended to offer families the freedom to choose what best suited their holiday meal.

“If you want turkey, fantastic…get a turkey,” he said. “If you want ham, chateaubriand, any type of steak…everybody’s different, but now we give it so you have your choice.”

The event came at a meaningful moment for many in the community. Local resident Renee Gerra expressed gratitude for the assistance, noting that many families are struggling.

“A lot of families are without a job without this kind of help, so it really means a lot to me, and I am very thankful and grateful,” she said.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) – A pizza chain is offering free food

The love kitchen will be held at the Salvation Army on December 12 and Crossroads Mission on December 13.

Little Caesars is providing free meals to locals in their time of need.

Local organizations are helping with provisions as food is given out.

The Salvation Army kitchen will be open from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. and the kitchen at Crossroads Mission will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Salvation Army is located 445 S. 4th Avenue and Crossroads Mission is on 944 S. Arizona Avenue.

A Love Kitchen is also planned for El Centro on December 11.

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA) – The U.S. Border Patrol El Centro Sector says an agent has died.

Agent Salvador Arballo passed away while off duty on November 16, 2025.

“Agent Arballo was a familiar face in our community, not only through his service with the U.S. Border Patrol, but through the countless hours he dedicated to our local youth as a soccer coach,” wrote Border Patrol through social media.

Arballo was a coach and contributed to Central Union High School sports.

“His commitment to service went far beyond the uniform. He strengthened the lives of the players he coached and helped build a stronger, more connected El Centro,” wrote Border Patrol.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) – Yuma firefighters put out a fire Wednesday night.

At about 11:55 p.m. on November 19, firefighters were called about a truck on fire in the Yuma Fleet Services yard (256 W. 13th Street).

Once on scene, crews noticed a utility truck with flames in its engine compartment and cab.

The fire was brought under control quickly, according to YFD.

The utility truck received the most damage, with only one nearby vehicle sustaining minor heat damage.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) – The City of Yuma will be having a self-serve sandbag filling station.

The sandbag station will be at the Yuma Civic Center (1440 W. Desert Hills Drive) on Thursday, November 20 from 1 to 4 p.m. and Friday, November 21 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Rain is expected in Yuma for the weekend starting Friday.

Empty bags will be provided at the sandbag station but shovels are limited.

SAN LUIS Ariz. (KYMA) – A local event has been moved to a later date.

The Asado & Brew Festival in San Luis, Arizona has been postponed to Spring 2026.

The City of San Luis is prioritizing safety for all attendees and vendors.

A new date has not been announced yet.

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA) – An event in Imperial County brought people together to discuss the community.

Comite Civico del Valle hosted the 14th annual Environmental Health Leadership Summit.

The Summit was held on November 19 and 20, 2025.

Local residents and leaders participated in workshops and discussions about the evniornment.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) – A man and woman were taken to the hospital following a crash Friday.

At about 6:09 a.m. on the morning of November 21, officers received a notification about a crash on Avenue 3E near the area of the Pacific Avenue Athletic Complex.

Police say a 53-year-old woman in a Dodge Caravan was driving northbound on Avenue 3E, lost control then crashed into a Ford F-150 driven by a 36-year-old man.

The man and woman were taken to Onvida Health, with the woman having serious injuries and later flown to a Phoenix hospital.

YPD says alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors.

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA) – A place for kids to play is coming to the Imperial Valley.

Candeeland is expected to open in late spring/early summer of 2026. It’ll feature child-friendly sections with climbable structures, as well as party rooms.

“We created Candeeland to be more than just a playground, It’s a place where families can connect, kids can explore freely, and imagination can run wild,”  said, Candeeland’s management team. “We want every child who visits to feel like they’ve stepped into a world made just for them.”

Candeeland is being built in the food court area of the Imperial Valley Mall.
