A Columbia man was in jail Monday on assault and other charges after he allegedly fired a gun, and shrapnel scratched a person’s leg.

Jadon G. Gooldy, 20, was charged with four felonies after he allegedly fired a gun late Saturday during a gathering in the parking lot at ABC Supply in southeast Columbia: first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of armed criminal action. Prosecutors also charged Gooldy with fourth-degree assault, a misdemeanor.

Gooldy is accused of firing a shot near a person’s head. Shrapnel from the bullet ricocheted and hit another person in the leg, leaving a red mark, police say.

A crowd was gathered in the parking lot for an underground racing event.

Witnesses said Gooldy was angry after a woman used a racial slur, according to a probable cause statement. The statement says Gooldy pulled out a handgun and a flashlight and said he was going to find her before firing a shot past an acquaintance’s head.

Gooldy threatened to shoot the acquaintance unless he “pressed” the person who said the racial slur, according to the statement. After that, Gooldy fired, police said.

Officers found a 9 mm casing in the parking lot.

An officer found the white pickup that witnesses described Gooldy leaving in. The victim who was scratched by shrapnel was found at the same address, the statement says.

Gooldy was arrested during a traffic stop Sunday, the Columbia Police Department wrote in a news release.

Gooldy is set for an initial hearing Monday afternoon. He remained in the Boone County Jail on Monday without bond.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Three correctional officers charged in the death of Jefferson City correctional inmate, Othel Moore, will be in a Cole County courtroom Monday at 9 a.m. in front of Judge Green for a plea/trial setting hearing.

Jacob Case and Justin Leggins are charged with third-degree accessory to assault and second-degree murder in a joint indictment in September, along with Bryanne Bradshaw, who is charged with accessory to second-degree assault and second-degree murder.

Othel Moore died in December 2023 in the Jefferson City Correctional Center from suffocation, after choking on contents from his stomach after being put in a restraint, court documents say.

Lawyers for the family had released video in October that showed Moore being carted into a dry cell wearing restraints with a mask and helmet on his head.

The Missouri Justice Coalition has previously said the JCCC Emergency Response Team excessively pepper-sprayed him before his head was covered with a hood, his body was wrapped and he was strapped to a restraint cart.

Moore entered prison in 2005 and was serving a 30-year sentence.

CALLAWAY COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Authorities are investigating a shooting that left one person dead and two others injured in Callaway County on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Callaway County Sheriff’s Office, multiple calls came in around 3:32 p.m. for reports of gunfire in the area. Deputies responded to the scene, along with the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

During the investigation, deputies discovered that three individuals had been shot. One person suffered minor injuries and declined treatment. Two other people were transported to a hospital. A woman later died at the hospital.

A Sunday night release from the sheriff’s office says deputies are investigating the shooting as a homicide. One person was detained for questioning, the release says.

Spokeswoman Crystal Kent said that all individuals involved in the incident have been identified and located. Due to the ongoing investigation, their names are not being released at this time.

“We get multiple calls from people. We have to do lots of interviews, a lot of witnesses, look for any evidence that we have, and currently that’s what all the investigators are doing,” Kent said.

Kent said there is no ongoing threat to the public and that preliminary findings indicate the shooting stemmed from a dispute between neighbors.

Investigators are continuing to gather information to determine exactly what led to the violence.

The post stated the scene- at the Hunter Lane Apartments was secure, but law enforcement asked residents to avoid the area.

Two men were shot and two male juveniles are in custody after a shooting in downtown Columbia early Sunday morning. Columbia Police Department spokesman Brian McNeill said the public is safe.

An ABC 17 News reporter was on E Broadway around 1:20 a.m. and heard what sounded like multiple gunshots.

The ABC 17 News reporter arrived at the scene on E Broadway and S Ninth Street around 1:30 a.m. and saw more than a dozen CPD vehicles, at least two Boone County Sheriff’s Office vehicles, a CFD engine, and a MU Health ambulance. The scene was primarily on S Ninth Street, with officers also at Hitt Street and Locust Street.

ABC 17 News saw a person getting put into a MU Health ambulance near Essentialz Vapes in the 900 block of E Broadway.

Evidence markers were placed on the ground by law enforcement in an alley off of Cherry Street behind the Shot Bar.

According to a press release from CPD, one of the victims was transported to a local hospital while the second arrived at a local hospital shortly after.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol and Ashland Police were also assisting officials at the scene

The scene cleared around 3 a.m.

Editors note: Early reports suggested the shooting happened during a party hosted by a local sorority. That has not been confirmed. We chose to omit the name of the sorority until we can find out more information. We are working to find out who rented the space and what kind of event was being held.

Two people were hospitalized after a shooting at Cosmo Park in northwest Columbia Saturday night.

The shooting happened around 10:30 p.m. Police say they found two people with gunshot wounds. One man is in critical condition, while a woman is in serious condition, according to a Sunday morning press release from police.

McNeill told ABC 17 News there is no suspect and no immediate threat to the public at this time.

Initial information indicates fraternity and sorority members from Jefferson City and Columbia gathered at the park.

“Although the park closes at midnight, preliminary inquiries indicate that the organizers had not secured shelter reservations via the Columbia Parks and Recreation Department,” the release says.

“One minute it was a party, the next it was a shootout,” a witness said.

According to multiple witnesses, one shot was fired into the air before a series of nonstop gunshots. People screamed and ran in all directions as gunfire continued, witnesses said.

There was a large police presence at Cosmo Park, and officers urged people to leave the area immediately. Around 10:30 p.m., an ABC 17 News reporter saw roughly 20 Columbia Police Department vehicles on the scene, two fire trucks, and several MU Health and Boone Health ambulances. The reporter also saw officers using a drone.

Some people had to wait in long lines as officers searched vehicles leaving the area one by one.
