SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT). – U.S. Women’s National Team head coach Emma Hayes has named a 26-player January training camp to be held at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif. The camp will conclude with matches against Paraguay on Jan. 24 at DHSP and Jan. 27 against Chile at Harder Stadium in Santa Barbara, Calif. Tickets for both matches are available on ussoccer.com.

Roughy 11,000 tickets have already been sold for the match at UCSB.

The roster features the return of forward Trinity Rodman, who played in just one USWNT match in 2025, a 2-0 victory over Brazil at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. In that match, she scored the game-winning goal. Rodman, 23, has the most caps (47) and goals (11) of anyone on the roster. The other 22 field players on the roster have a combined 17 international goals. That match against Brazil was Rodman’s only USWNT appearance since the 2024 Olympic gold medal match on Aug. 10, 2024. Rodman is a Southern California native, growing up in Orange County, not far from DHSP.

As the January training camp falls outside a FIFA competition window, Hayes named a roster made up entirely of players from the National Women’s Soccer League, with Rodman currently unattached, including four first-time call-ups in forwards Maddie Dahlien (Seattle Reign FC) and Reilyn Turner (Portland Thorns FC) and midfielders Riley Jackson (North Carolina Courage) and Sally Menti (Seattle Reign FC). Dahlien and Jackson featured in all five U.S. U-23 WNT events in 2025 and were on the roster for the January 2025 Futures Camp in Florida. Menti was in two U.S. U-23 WNT camps last year.

Dahlien and Jackson also played key roles in the USA’s third-place finish at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia, a team that featured four additional players on this USWNT roster in defenders Jordyn Bugg and Gisele Thompson, midfielder Claire Hutton and forward Ally Sentnor, who returns from the senior team roster after helping lead the U.S. Under-23 WNT to wins over the Slovakia WNT (1-0) and England’s U-23s (4-2) during the last FIFA window. Sentnor scored in both matches.

At the end of this camp, the USA will face Paraguay on Jan. 24 at DHSP (2:30 p.m. PT / 5:30 p.m. ET on TNT, truTV and HBO Max in English, on Universo and Peacock in Spanish, on Westwood One radio in English and on Futbol de Primera radio in Spanish) before traveling north to face Chile on Jan. 27 at Harder Stadium in Santa Barbara, Calif. (7 p.m. PT / 10 p.m. ET on TBS and HBO Max in English, Universo and Peacock in Spanish, and on the radio in English on Westwood One and in Spanish on Futbol de Primera).

“Once again, our roster presents opportunity, for the coaching staff to evaluate players and for some NWSL players we haven’t seen as much in the National Team environment, as well as for some first-time call-ups, to show they can contribute in 2026, 2027 or beyond,” said Hayes. “We’re looking forward to having a few more training days than usual in this camp as well as getting two matches to see this part of the player pool in game action and hopefully add even more depth and options for our 2026 SheBelieves Cup roster.”

Concurrently with the USWNT’s January training camp at DHSP, the U.S. Youth National Team staff will conduct a National Team Development Camp featuring players born between 2003-2008. The youth camps are part of the continued focus on the U.S. Way, which emphasizes increased programming for Youth National Teams to create more opportunities for young players to advance through the pathway to the senior National Team with the goal of representing their country at a world championship.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT). – Santa Barbara raced out to a 25-12 lead after the first quarter and was never threatened in a 77-52 home win over Oxnard.

Sophomore Brent Sharpton scored 10 of his game-high 16 points in that first quarter to help the Dons move to 5-0 in the Channel League.

Sophomore guard Blake Lee added 11 points for the Dons who improved to 11-7 overall.

D’Aries Garrett scored 15 points for Oxnard who fell to 3-2 in the Channel League.

GOLETA, Calif. (KEYT) – Seniors Evan Pinsker and Wyatt Gardiner combined for 48 points as Dos Pueblos edged crosstown rival San Marcos 69-67 for their first win in this series since the 2016-’17 season.

(Pinsker made seven 3-pointers for a team-high 26 points. Entenza Design).

(Gardiner scored 22 points in his first game back after missing the last five contests with an ankle injury. Entenza Design).

San Marcos was led by junior Aidan Conlan who scored a game-high 27 points and made six 3-pointers.

Senior Koji Hefner added 17 points but the Royals fell to 3-2 in the Channel League.

The game was tied at 33 at half and DP entered the fourth quarter with a 50-45 advantage.

Conlan scored 13 fourth quarter points on the strength of 4-three-pointers.

His final three-pointer with 1:40 left pulled the Royals to within two points at 64-62.

Still up by two with under :30 seconds to go, DP broke a full-court press and Logan Pearce sealed the game with a layup as DP improved to 2-3 in league.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) – Protesters held signs and electric candles at the Santa Barbara County Courthouse on Wednesday evening.

They chanted the name Renee Nicole Good.

This protest and others like it erupted nationwide following viral video showing Good, 37, being fatally shot in Minnesota.

One speaker said he was shocked that Immigration and Customs Enforcement would shoot a white woman in her car.

Others talked about how disturbing it was to seeing what happened on what has become viral video.

Chelsea Lancaster, who described herself as an SB Resiste community organizer, looked like she was close to tears behind a mask that said Love. 

“We are asking you to get out here and help us you all are living history right now. They couldn’t live stream fascist Germany we are watching in real time what is happening. They said the revolutions would not be televised but it is  where is everybody, get out of your comfort zone because they are coming for you, too,” said Lancaster.

Some local elected leaders including Santa Barbara City Coucil member Wendy Santamaria spoke too.

Some protesters on the public sidewalk projected members of the Trump Administration and Jeffrey Epstein onto the Santa Barbara County Courthouse walls.

They are urging residents to stay informed and get involved in local resistance groups including @805Undocufund, @805Respeuestararapida, @SBResiste and @Carp_sinfronteras.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) – With the help of a special grant, a new look will come to the streets of Santa Barbara in a one-of-a-kind art project.

Recently a demonstration was held at the Saturday Farmers Market on Carrillo St. and State St. where the colorful and cultural project will ultimately take place.

Another one takes place this Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.

Lead artists Eddy Jimenez and Irene Ramirez are providing an introduction to Zapotec rug weaving, natural dye techniques, and the cultural symbolism embedded in traditional designs.

Textiles will be on display along with educational materials, and live demonstrations.

The worksmanship will reflect generations of cultural knowledge and craftsmanship.

This is all part of the Bloomberg Asphalt Art Initiative. Santa Barbara was one of only four cities to get this grant in the U.S.

The City of Santa Barbara, in collaboration with the County Office of Arts & Culture, has been awarded $100,000 from Bloomberg Philanthropies.

Santa Barbara County Office of Arts & Culture Executive Director Sarah York Rubin says there will be designs that will likely show community, the ocean and other aspects of the people and region that will, “integrate those ideas into a design that’s a design for the street.”

Beyond painting the street with these designs, there will also be work on the surrounding lights.

The asphalt art installation goal is to revitalize the State and Carrillo intersection and enhance pedestrian safety.

The final designs will be made in the coming weeks with the painting taking place in the next few months.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) – The now closed Anchor Rose restaurant space has become available for the next restaurant operator who wants to take over the two-story waterfront location.

Interested parties have been working fast to get their proposals in to the City of Santa Barbara’s Waterfront Department.

The lease ended for the Anchor Rose on December 31st.

The city confirms the Anchor Rose was still open with customers after the lease deadline and was then ordered to cease operations.

The site at the historic Maritime Museum, has both an upstairs and a downstairs dining area along with two patios on top and one on the bottom. Proposals coming in could be for both sites or two separate operations.

They will be evaluated by the staff and when an agreement is reached it will be brought to the Harbor Commission meeting. The location has scenic views of the harbor and over 700 parking spots nearby.

It was formerly occupied by Chucks Waterfront Grill and the Endless Summer Bar Cafe, Chomp on the Rocks and Salt on the Beach.

Dart Coffee is in a corner of the building and patio. It remains open with a separate lease.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) – Santa Barbara Humane returned to your News Channel this morning, this time with the sweetest boy around – meet Chocolate!

The name is all-too fitting for the three-month-old pup. Chief operating officer, Dory Villalon, says the young pup is quiet, affectionate, and eager to learn, and encourages anyone interested in adopting Chocolate – or any puppy – to enroll them in training classes.

“He is ready to get right into puppy manners class, which is what we hope every puppy adopter does so they take advantage of this time when these pups are young to get them well socialized and get started on their training,” Villalon says.

To help remove any stress or obstacles that may be holding back adopters from signing up for training classes, SB Humane now offers intermediate manners classes – on top of their puppy class and basic obedience class.

“We’ve just launched online dog training classes. Which is so cool you maybe don’t have the time to come to campus or there’s transportation concerns, you just wanna train from the comfort of your own home. It’s live Zoom training with a certified trainer you can ask all the questions you need, and your dog actually doesn’t have all the distractions so it can be a really quality time there.”

In a few months SB Humane will be throwing their Wild West Fest! The fundraising event helps support the organization and all those sweet animals they take in, just like Chocolate.

LOMPOC, Calif. (KEYT) – The Lompoc division of Santa Barbara Superior Court was standing room only this morning for a hearing in the murder case against Ashlee Buzzard.

The crowd witnessed what turned out to be a quick procedural hearing.

Many of the seats were filled with family members of the late 9-year-old Melodee Buzzard, reporters and media representatives, as well as spectators from the Vandenberg Village neighborhood where she lived with her mother Ashlee.

40-year-old Ashlee Buzzard is accused of shooting and killing Melodee in October, leaving her body on a remote Utah roadside.

Ashlee pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder on December 26th.

“I don’t know what to expect anymore,” says Lilly Denes, Melodee’s paternal grandmother.

Many of the spectators expressed hopes that the court would move quickly on this case.

“But we need to do something about it, fast,” says Denes. “This is taking so long. Her courts are going to go probably over and over. I don’t know. This is the first time we have seen anything like this.”

Judge Stephen Dunkle has maintained the gag order against Santa Barbara County Sheriffs for now.

Buzzard’s next court date is January 21st for a hearing on a defense motion.

Her public defender is Adrian Galvan, but it’s unclear if he will continue to represent her.

“She didn’t want to look at me,” says Denes. “She knew where I was. She went straight. I always been in the front. No, I don’t know. I don’t know. What’s going through your mind that she did what she did.”

Melodee’s paternal grandmother Lilly Denes works with your news channel, and she says Melodee’s entire family—including Ashlee’s mother—is hurting.

“She is hurting,” says Denes. “She sent me a message, ‘God help us,’ she put in my message, and I said yes. So I’m sure she’s hurting the same as I am, but she’s hurting for her daughter. I’m hurting for my grandbaby. My family is huge. And they—every time that you guys interview me, they’re ready. Everybody is involved.”

The family is beginning some preparations to lay Melodee to rest, but no date has been set for any services.

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (KEYT) – The 8th Annual News Channel 3-11-12 MLK Day of Service Blood Drive will be held later this month in an effort to help boost local supply levels.

The yearly event is held in partnership with Vitalant and is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 19, 2026 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Santa Barbara, Santa Maria and San Luis Obispo.

“Supplies definitely are low,” said Beau Mercurio, Vitalant Account Manager. “Especially now, just because of the weather. We’ve had a lot of blood drives canceled in the community due to the weather and that’s really hurt our numbers and our stock levels for the blood and blood products, so we definitely are in a high need for blood right now. We definitely need all hands on deck for blood donors.”

For the first six years of the event, the blood drive was held in Vitalant blood centers. However, last year the drive moved to the Elks Lodge sites in Santa Barbara, Santa Maria and San Luis Obispo.

Once again this year, the blood drive will take place in the same three Elks Lodge locations.

“They stepped up,” said Mercurio. “It just didn’t make sense anymore in the center because we were growing and it’s really neat that the Elks has stepped up to host this drive. This is open to the public. Anybody and everybody in our community can come out there and donate.”

Vitalant points out that one donation of blood may save up to three lives, highlighting the impact donors have on the community.

“Just keep in mind that every two seconds somebody is needing blood, there is a transfusion happening,” said Mercurio. “One out of seven patients that walks in a hospital is going to need a transfusion. Just one pint of blood can help save three lives. It’s that important you’re saving lives with that blood donation.”

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) – A major washout on the Gaviota coast from recent rains has put the brakes on AMTRAK and Union Pacific trains.

The Amtrak Alerts message to passengers went out Tuesday and reads:

Temporary Track Closure January 6

Due to weather-related track damage, Pacific Surfliner service between Goleta Station and San Luis Obispo station is temporarily suspended. Amtrak Connection buses offer riders an alternative route to Santa Barbara station while Union Pacific repairs the rails and ensures passenger safety. More updates to come.

The area was hit hard with rain Saturday causing mudslides and a full freeway shutdown in the same general area.

A Union Pacific heavy equipment operator on the tracks Tuesday lost control of his machinery in the area of the landslide and failing track site. The driver was not seriously hurt but taken to Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara by AMR.

The tracks were immediately closed. Passengers onboard a train were delayed and eventually rerouted back to a station to get on a bus to Santa Barbara.

From there, those going south could continue.

One passenger said in all it was an eight-hour delay for his day.
