MILWAUKEE (WISN) — Family identified 18-year-old David Hunt as the innocent driver killed in a police chase. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the identification.

Hunt died in the crash near Layton Boulevard and Greenfield Avenue Sunday night.

“It just sounded like vehicles clashing together,” neighbor Amber Kiepper said.

The Milwaukee Police Department said officers saw a man driving recklessly a few blocks away near 23rd Street and Greenfield Avenue.

Officers tried to pull the vehicle over, but the 38-year-old male driver kept going, eventually striking the vehicle Hunt was driving.

Rights organization Voces de la Frontera said Hunt was an advocate who often helped lead their protests.

The organization released a statement saying in part:

“David was passionate about speaking up for others and fighting for social change. He brought humor, honesty, and heart into every space he entered.”

Hunt was a senior at Milwaukee School of Languages. The school principal shared a statement saying counseling services are available for students as they process this unexpected loss.

Police arrested the driver they were chasing.

A 28-year-old woman in the same car as the suspect was hurt.

Milwaukee police said illegal narcotics were found in the suspect’s vehicle during the arrest.
