Washington (Quincy News) — Market Recap: U.S. stocks finished mixed Tuesday as technology shares rebounded. The S&P 500 gained 0.4% and the Nasdaq rose 0.8%, while the Dow fell 0.4%.

Chipmaker Nvidia climbed 2.3%, and Microsoft, Amazon and Meta each rose more than 2%. Apple fell 1.9% after warning that rising memory-chip costs will squeeze its profits. Most S&P 500 stocks still declined, so the gain came from a handful of large companies.

After the close, AMD reported sales of $13.4 billion, up 45% from a year earlier, as its data-center business nearly doubled. It forecast about $17 billion in sales for the current quarter, and its shares jumped about 7% in after-hours trading.

The yield on the 10-year Treasury note, a benchmark that influences mortgage and borrowing rates, rose to 4.96% from 4.91% late Monday. The move came after a report showed more job openings than economists expected.

Today’s Focus: Democrats won control of the House and Senate in Tuesday’s midterm elections, setting up a divided government when the new Congress convenes in January. The outcome will shape negotiations over taxes and spending, among other issues, during President Trump’s final two years in office.
