Driver suspected of 5 crimes, including DWI, in Columbia head-on crash
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
One of two drivers in a head-on collision that closed a street last week has been cited on five criminal counts, including a serious-injury DWI, according to a Boone County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.
Capt. Brian Leer said deputies issued a summons to Melvin Warrick, 46, for serious-injury DWI, driving without a license, careless and imprudent driving, driving on the wrong side of the road and failure to register a vehicle. Leer said deputies cited Warrick because he could not be physically arrested and booked into the jail.
Warrick was one of two people who suffered serious injuries in the crash last Wednesday on East St. Charles Road near the entrance to Lake of the Woods golf course. Investigators believe Warrick was speeding when he crossed the centerline and hit the vehicle of a female driver head-on.
The sheriff’s office has not identified the woman in the other car.
A summons is an order to appear in court, but doesn’t signify the filing of charges. Boone County Prosecutor Roger Johnson said he expects charges to be filed by Nov. 18.
