Highway 54 bridge demolition in Kingdom City finishes ahead of schedule
KINGDOM CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Missouri Department of Transportation announced the completion of the demolition of two bridges at the Highway 54 exit on Interstate 70 ahead of schedule on Sunday.
All roads in that area are now back open.
The demolition started on Friday at 7 p.m. and was supposed to be completed on Monday at 5 a.m.
In a Facebook post, MoDOT said at 2:12 p.m. on Sunday that demolition was completed. A spokesperson for MoDOT confirmed the roads were reopened around 1:30 p.m.
During the demolition, the eastbound and westbound lanes of I-70 that run under the Highway 54 roundabout were closed. Drivers had to exit onto the access roads during the closure to go around the demolition.
The entire Highway 54 roundabout was closed to drivers, and detours were avalible for drivers to find alternate routes to their destinations.
In previous reporting, MoDOT’s Improve I-70 Statewide Director Eric Kopinski said that the demolition would have significant traffic impacts and that traffic delays could be up to an hour.
There were around 30 workers on site of the demolition, working day and night to complete the project, according to Kopinski.
