INDIO, Calif. (KESQ) — For someone facing a mental health crisis, waiting weeks for an appointment can make getting help even harder. A new center in Indio offers a place to walk in and receive support at any hour.

The Indio Behavioral Health Crisis Walk-In Center served more than 200 patients in less than two months after opening, according to Riverside University Health System–Behavioral Health. Officials say the number of people seeking help has been rising each week.

The center serves children ages 5 and older, teens and adults. It is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with no appointment or referral required.

Services include behavioral health assessments, crisis stabilization, counseling, medication support and peer support. Staff also help patients create safety plans and connect with ongoing care.

The goal is to provide immediate support during a crisis while helping people figure out what comes next.

People can come on their own or be connected through family members, schools, therapists, hospitals, law enforcement and other community organizations.

The center is part of RUHS–Behavioral Health’s Crisis Support System of Care, which connects people with services based on their needs.

Located at 47-915 Oasis St., Suite B, in Indio, the center accepts patients regardless of insurance or ability to pay.
