YOLO COUNTY, California (KCRA) — A Turlock man was arrested after another man was found dead in the trunk of a car, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP said 42-year-old Javier Becerril Jr., from Hollister, was found dead in the trunk of a Tesla sedan on July 9 on Highway 152 in Merced County. According to CHP, Becerril was physically assaulted before his body was placed in the trunk.
Detectives later identified 39-year-old Manuel Salceda as a suspect in Becerril’s death. Investigators learned Salceda may have used multiple identities to evade law enforcement, CHP said.
On Oct. 11, a vehicle believed to be transporting Salceda was found in Dublin and tracked by law enforcement, CHP said. Salceda was found at a gas station on Road 8 in Woodland and arrested without incident, according to CHP.
Salceda was arraigned on murder charges in Merced County on Tuesday, officials said.
