SACRAMENTO, California (KCRA) — A breast cancer diagnosis can bring uncertainty and questions about what comes next, but patients don’t have to navigate that journey alone.
Tana Toll, a breast cancer survivor and nurse navigator with Dignity Health, joined KCRA 3 to talk about resources that are available.
She said her first piece of advice is that women “don’t have to know everything going into it. There’s a lot of new language, new doctors you’re going to meet. And to just take it one step at a time because it’s a lot to absorb at once.”
Toll said that, as a nurse and survivor, she was scared about how the diagnosis would affect her future.
She recommended “keeping life as normal as possible.”
“Go for your walks. Spend time with your family. Get outside. Enjoy green space,” she said. “Those are the things that really quell anxiety.”
Toll said that nurse navigation can help connect people to support groups and resources, and help with addressing barriers.
