KENOSHA, Wisconsin (WTMJ) — A 33-year-old Seattle man was arrested in Chicago in connection with a double homicide investigation in Kenosha after Kenosha police said two people were found dead inside the Villa Royale Apartments.
Kenosha police said the bodies of Rodney Brushwood, a 57-year-old man, and Rena O’Neal, a 59-year-old woman, were found inside an apartment in the 5500 block of Washington Road during a welfare check on Monday.
Police said both were shot and killed and named Michael O’Neal Fleming, 33, as a person of interest in the double homicide investigation. Kenosha police said he was located and arrested in Chicago on Tuesday.
According to KING 5 News in Seattle, Fleming is also suspected of fatally shooting a 36-year-old gas station employee in Seattle on Oct. 13.
Back in Kenosha, residents at Villa Royale said the police presence had left them concerned.
Bob Rosenthal, who has lived at the apartment complex for two years, described it as a normally quiet community.
Rosenthal said he first noticed police activity Monday afternoon. During his usual morning walk Tuesday, he spotted several police cars and crime scene tape.
“I see the yellow tape and I see a sign up says crime scene … so something is up,” Rosenthal said.
Earlier on Tuesday, Rosenthal said he was concerned about whether Fleming had been located.
“It makes you wonder, like, did they catch the guy or not?” he said. “There’s places to hide. There are a lot of empty units; there are empty garages they can get into.”
Kenosha police said detectives will work with the Kenosha County District Attorney’s Office to initiate extradition proceedings and pursue charges in Wisconsin.
