How shoppers in Yuma are saving money for Halloween
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) – Halloween can be a lot of fun, but it can also be costly.
With spending expected to hit a record this year, shoppers in Yuma are sharing how they’re trying to save while enjoying the holiday.
The National Retail Federation said they expect Halloween spending to reach a record $13.5 billion this year, with the average person spending about $115.
For shoppers, that could mean getting creative with their budgets, comparing prices and shopping ahead to find the best deals.
“Right now, I’m kind of like on a penny pitching mode. So it’s kind of like I have to crunch down on everything else to make sure that I have money for the holidays because everything’s kind of going up right now,” said Ahriana Rogers, who is shopping on a budget.
Rogers said she compared costumes at different stores before buying one at Walmart, where she found a lower price.
Another shopper, Lucy Shaw, said she’s also noticing higher candy prices, so she’s buying ahead of time to avoid last-minute spending.
“They have gone up a lot, but I mean, with everything, I guess you just learn to adjust and figure out how much you have to spend and go from there,” Shaw explained.
More Yuma shoppers said they’re stretching their Halloween budgets without “tricking” themselves into overspending.
