Maries County ends Flock contract after company rep no-shows for public meeting
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Maries County Commission terminated the county’s agreement with Flock on Monday morning, according to a social media post from the county’s sheriff’s office.
Maries County joins a growing number of communities who have ended their contracts with Flock over concerns of its use. U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) introduced a bill last month targeting the technology.
Sheriff Mark Morgan wrote on the department’s Facebook page that “While we believe in providing our deputies with the best technology available, we believe even more strongly in transparency. To ensure our citizens had their questions answered, the Maries County Commissioners arranged a public meeting on October 15, 2026, in the Maries County Courtroom.”
Morgan wrote that he followed up with Flock several times, including before the meeting, to ensure a representative would be attending, but the representative never showed up. Morgan recommended the commission terminate the agreement.
“Following this absence, I spoke personally with the vendor to address this failure. I was not satisfied with their response. When a partner fails to show up for our community, it indicates a lack of the professional accountability we require,” the post says.
In August, Pulaski County terminated its contract with Flock after holding a community forum to receive feedback on Flock. Jefferson City renewed its own agreement in August.
Columbia will hold a public hearing about its contract on Monday, Nov. 9.
