YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) – The Yuma Fire Department (YFD) said they responded to a house fire early Sunday morning.

YFD said they received reports of smoke in the area of W. 24th Street and S. Avenue C at around 3 a.m.

Upon arrival, YFD said firefighters found a “light haze and began searching for its source,” leading them to the area of W. 20th Street and S. Avenue D.

YFD said firefighters then found the fire at a home located in the area of W. 21st Lane, with them finding significant fire at the rear of the home.

While crews were working to contain the fire, and as additional crews arrived, YFD said they entered the home to extinguish the fire.

Once inside, YFD said firefighters found that the fire had spread into the attic, where the flames broke through the roof.

Because of worsening conditions, YFD said firefighters withdrew from the home, and continued battling the fire from the outside.

The fire was then brought under control, YFD said.

YFD said the home was empty and undergoing renovations at the time of the fire, and said there were no injuries reported.

While YFD said crews remained on scene to check the property for any remaining fire or hot spots, the investigation is ongoing.
