LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (WLKY) — A car seized during an illegal street takeover in Louisville will meet its end under the tires of a monster truck this weekend.
The Louisville Metro Police Department is teaming up with Hot Wheels Monster Trucks Live to send a message about the consequences of illegal street takeovers.
Event organizers said a monster truck will crush a 2009 Dodge Charger seized by LMPD during a takeover at Shawnee Park in 2024.
Investigators later found that the car had several stolen parts installed on it including the 6.2-liter supercharger Hellcat engine, seats, wheels, transmission components, electronic modules, exhaust system, suspension parts and brakes.
The stolen parts were traced from Detroit to Indianapolis before the car ended up in Louisville, according to LMPD.
LMPD Chief Paul Humphrey said the move is meant to send a clear message that street takeovers are crimes.
“Illegal street racing in Louisville has consequences. If you put people in danger when you’re behind the wheel, don’t be surprised when you lose your car,” Humphrey said.
The show is set to take place at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the KFC Yum! Center.
