BURNS, Ore. (KTVZ) — A shop was destroyed and a quarter-acre brush fire was contained Tuesday afternoon after a fire was reported near Highway 78 and South Harney Lane, according to the Burns Fire Department.

Fire crews were dispatched to the area at about 4 p.m. Burns Engine 103 and Tender 110 responded, with the department also requesting assistance from Hines Fire and Harney Electric Cooperative.

When Engine 103 arrived, firefighters found a shop or shed fully engulfed and destroyed by fire. Flames had also spread into nearby brush along South Harney Lane.

Engine 103 worked to stop the brush fire’s forward progress, containing it to approximately one-quarter acre. Burns firefighters and Hines Fire crews also worked to extinguish the structure fire.

Hines Tender 1 provided a water supply for Engine 103 and assisted with firefighting efforts.

No injuries were reported.

The fire department said the fire is believed to have started after a bird caused electrical wires near a power pole to spark.

The Burns Fire Department thanked Harney Electric Cooperative, Hines Fire Department and the Harney County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance.
