YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) – Crossroads Mission is spending 24 hours outside this month to raise awareness about homelessness in Yuma.

On October 10, staff members will set up camp outside the organization’s new Center of Hope, behind Green Trees Grocery Outlet.

They’ll arrive at 6 a.m. and stay there for 24 hours, regardless of the weather.

Greg Culver with Crossroads Mission says the event is meant to help people pay more attention to Yuma’s homeless population.

“We’ve got a pretty large population, and a lot of people…they just drive by and don’t really recognize them,” Culver said.

Last year, the event took place in rainy weather, but Culver says staff still stayed outside for the full 24 hours.

Crossroads Mission hopes the event leads to more awareness, conversations and people looking for ways to help.

People can stop by the Center of Hope during the event to show their support.
