Today’s Focus
Monday’s calendar is relatively light, led by the Dallas Fed’s September manufacturing survey at 10:30 a.m. ET. The Fed calendar features Vice Chair for Supervision Michelle Bowman discussing bank supervision and regulation at 8:15 a.m. ET and Governor Lisa Cook speaking on artificial intelligence and emerging technology at 1:25 p.m. ET.
The events come less than two weeks after the Fed unanimously raised its benchmark rate by a quarter point to a range of 3.75% to 4%, its first increase since mid-2023. The week’s main tests arrive Tuesday with August job openings and consumer confidence; Wednesday with ADP private-sector employment, PCE inflation, personal income and spending, and the third estimate of second-quarter GDP; Thursday with ISM manufacturing; and Friday with the September jobs report. Together, the reports will provide a broad read on labor demand, hiring, consumer spending, inflation and growth as policymakers consider the path ahead.
