Bonneville High School returns to normal following suspected swatting incident
AMMON, Idaho (KIFI) — Bonneville High School and surrounding buildings were briefly placed under a hall check Wednesday morning while law enforcement investigated a report of a weapon on campus.
Deputies with the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office were sent to the area around 11:00 a.m. to search as a safety precaution. Sergeant Bryan Lovell with the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that deputies searched the building, found no weapon, and cleared the scene within the hour. Bonneville County School District 93 has since returned the school to normal operations.
In an update to parents, district officials and the Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the incident appears to be part of a “swatting” call—a hoax designed to trigger a heavy emergency response. Investigators believe the call originated from outside the area, has no connection to Bonneville High School.
“Deputies have since learned this threat is similar to swatting calls to schools in other parts of the region,” said Lovell in a news release.
The investigation into the call remains ongoing.
