Yuma reporter remembers Eliana Moreno
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) – Newsrooms across the country, in Yuma, are mourning the loss of three people killed in a news helicopter crash in Los Angeles, with one of them being aerial reporter Eliana Moreno.
Carmen Marquez is a civic engagement reporter for KAWC, but she previously worked at NBC4 and Telemundo 52 in Los Angeles, where she got to know Moreno as a colleague and a friend.
Marquez, who also worked at KYMA as a reporter and an anchor, said Moreno welcomed her to the team, and inspired her with her drive and commitment to serving the Los Angeles community.
“It takes a lot of courage. It takes a lot of sacrifice, because you’re also leaving your personal life to pursue this dream and to pursue, like this community service of giving people the news and the latest on events,” Marquez expressed.
“She knew the direction that she wanted to go, and that’s such a brave example for all of us. For all of us that are like immigrants, for all of us, like first, second generation Latinos,” Marquez added.
Marquez also said Moreno will always be remembered as an example for those not only in the news industry, but especially for Latinos.
In a post to Instagram, Moreno wrote, “Eli in the heli, forever.”
