Corn-Based Ethanol Gas Launches in Goleta, But Not Ideal for All Vehicles

GOLETA, Calif. (KEYT) – A fill up in Goleta with a newly approved ethanol based gas could save you up to $3.00 a gallon.
The fuel is 15% ethanol, which is an alcohol derived from corn and 85% gasoline. It is known as E15, which is available at gas stations across the country.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) allowed this to come into effect on May 1.
If you use it in the wrong vehicle could damage your car.
Fuel economy is also lower.
Some aspects of this fuel consumers should know include:
Cost: Usually 5 to 30 cents cheaper per gallon than regular 87-octane gas. Vehicles: Safe for most cars, trucks, and SUVs built in 2001 or newer. Do not use in motorcycles, boats, lawnmowers, or other small engines. How to Check: Look at your owner’s manual or check your vehicle’s gas cap. Look for the blue border label on the fuel dispenser at the station. Emissions: Burns cleaner and creates fewer greenhouse gas emissions than standard E10 fuel.(More details, photos and video will be added here later today.)
