VENTURA, Calif. (KEYT) – An Oxnard man died after his car crashed and caught fire just before 4:00 a.m. Sunday near Harbor Boulevard and Olivas Park Road, according to the Ventura Police Department.

VPD officers arrived to find the man’s car ablaze before finding the driver inside and pronouncing him dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation indicates the car veered into the center median before hitting a palm tree cluster and crashing violently, according to the VPD.

Speed appears to be a factor in the crash while whether drugs and alcohol factored into the crash remains unknown, according to the VPD.

The Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office is withholding information on the deceased until next-of-kin notifications are made, according to the VPD.

The investigation remains ongoing and those with more information on the crash are asked to contact the VPD.
