99-year-old woman recovering after being attacked by stranger, attorneys consider lawsuit

MILWAUKEE (WISN) — Attorneys representing a 99-year-old Milwaukee woman who was attacked inside her home in July held a news conference Wednesday morning.
The woman waited three hours for help after calling 911 during an attack in her home. It prompted an investigation and personnel changes within the city’s emergency communications department.
Prosecutors charged a 23-year-old Milwaukee man with breaking into the woman’s home and beating her.
“Something like this should not happen,” Attorney Chris MacGillis said.
MacGillis Law Group is representing 99-year-old Shirley. Due to pending litigation, they did not want to release her full name.
A representative with MacGillis Law Group shared graphic photos with WISN 12 News that show the extend woman’s injuries.
MacGillis Law Group said she was nearly beaten to death, and it is a miracle she somehow survived.
She had to get over 100 stitches, had multiple facial fractures, and severe lacerations.
The law group is seeking stricter action to ensure that when someone else calls 911 during an emergency, a wait time like this doesn’t happen again.
“We all should expect that when we make a call like that or our loved one does, or even a stranger is put in situation that requires an immediate response, we can trust a response will come,” said MacGillis.
Attorneys say she is recovering at a rehab center but may never be able to walk again.
Attorneys are considering filing a lawsuit but are awaiting requested documents from the city.
WISN 12 News also requested those same documents through an open records request, but we have not received them yet.
WISN 12 News reached out to the Department of Emergency Communications for a response to the potential lawsuit; we did not receive a response.
