Iran Tensions, Jobs Data, G20 Talks

    Washington (Quincy News) — Market Recap: Stocks fell Monday after the U.S. and Iran resumed attacks for the first time in about a month, while investors continued to assess Fed Chair Kevin Warsh’s latest comments on inflation and interest rates.

The S&P 500 fell 0.3%, the Nasdaq slipped 0.1% and the Dow declined 0.7%. Oil prices rose nearly 3% Monday amid concerns about further disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. The 10-year Treasury yield climbed above 4.75% as a global bond selloff continued.

Today’s Focus: Labor-market and manufacturing data take focus Tuesday as investors look for clues on the path for interest rates ahead of the Fed’s Sept. 15-16 meeting.

July JOLTS job openings and the August ISM Manufacturing PMI are due at 10 a.m. ET, kicking off a busy stretch of labor data ahead of Friday’s August employment report. Fed Governor Michael Barr also speaks at 9:05 a.m. ET.

Investors are also watching the second day of the G20 finance ministers and central bank governors meeting in Asheville, North Carolina. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is pushing for stronger global growth, reduced trade imbalances and increased economic pressure on Iran, while facing questions over rising U.S. debt and Treasury yields.
