Local author writes children’s book about Pueblo Fire Department
PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) – A local author is bringing the story of Pueblo Fire to life in a new children’s book about her husband, an assistant fire chief with the Pueblo Rural Fire Department.
Iva DeSiata is a fantasy author from Pueblo and works at the Giodone branch of the Pueblo library. She said she came up with the idea for a book two years ago while setting up a first responder section in the youth department of a different library.
“I was looking at some of the stories, and they all had to do with like the action of it all, but nothing really behind the scenes kind of a thing for their families and stuff,” DeSiata said. “I start thinking, I am married to one, so why not create a story of that?”
DeSiata’s previous book series is a fictional fantasy, but ‘Rodney Dean, An Assistant Fire Chief’ features a real-life protagonist.
“He’s my hero,” DeSiata said.
DeSiata and her husband have done live readings of the children’s book across Southern Colorado. Their next stop is the Briargate Barnes and Noble, sometime in the next couple of weeks. You can find her book for sale here.
