CASSIA COUNTY, Idaho (KIFI) — Firefighters are battling a 3,000-acre fire in eastern Cassia County. The Coldwater Fire was reported Thursday evening, Aug. 28, located approximately 15 miles northeast of Malta on BLM land.

Officials said the fire remained active overnight, particularly along its southwest flank. Despite continued fire activity, crews reported that roads and dozer lines successfully held through the night, helping contain the fire’s spread.

The fire is burning in fuels consisting primarily of grass, juniper and brush, which can support rapid fire spread under favorable weather conditions.

At this time no evacuations or road closures have been reported.
