CUSTER COUNTY, Idaho (KIFI) — A 51-year-old Ammon man died Thursday morning after rolling his semi-truck on U.S. Highway 93 east of Challis, according to Idaho State Police.

The crash happened around 10:37 a.m. at milepost 154. Investigators say the man was driving a northbound 2005 Peterbilt semi-truck hauling a trailer loaded with gravel when the vehicle veered off the right shoulder and into the borrow pit.

When the driver attempted to steer back onto the highway, the trailer remained in the pit and the tractor and trailer broke apart. The tractor rolled once before landing upright, while the trailer flipped onto its roof.

The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and died from his injuries at the scene. Idaho State Police is continuing to investigate the crash.
