Warsh at Jackson Hole, Nvidia Rally, Consumer Sentiment

Washington (Quincy News) — Market Recap: Nvidia’s earnings powered a tech-led rally Thursday as investors looked ahead to Fed Chair Kevin Warsh’s Jackson Hole debut. The S&P 500 rose 0.7%, the Nasdaq advanced 1.6% and the Dow gained 0.2%.
Nvidia shares jumped 8.7% after the chipmaker’s strong revenue forecast reinforced expectations for continued AI demand. Salesforce surged 22.6% following stronger-than-expected earnings.
Treasury yields edged higher, with the 10-year ending around 4.68%. Oil prices reversed earlier losses and rose Thursday, with U.S. crude settling near $84 a barrel.
Today’s Focus: Fed Chair Kevin Warsh delivers his first Jackson Hole keynote as head of the central bank at 10 a.m. ET Friday. Warsh speaks less than three weeks before the Fed’s September meeting, with markets pricing roughly a one-in-three chance of a rate hike. Investors will be watching for signals on the path for interest rates as inflation remains above the Fed’s 2% target.
The final reading of the University of Michigan’s August Consumer Sentiment Index is also due at 10 a.m. ET.
