Vero Beach woman billed $922 for electricity after fire destroys home

VERO BEACH, Fla. (WPBF) — More than a month after fire ripped through her Vero Beach home, Debbie Drennan said she received a bill from Florida Power & Light charging her for electricity for weeks after her power had been cut off.
The fire started in the early morning hours of July 5, destroying the home’s carport and kitchen.
“I’ve never been through anything like this. I mean, it was traumatic,” Drennan said.
Drennan said the situation worsened a month later when she received a bill for power, including for the time after they had no service.
The company agreed to remove the charge.
“Oh my gosh. A relief! Yeah,” Drennan said. “At least the $922 is gone. Thanks to you guys.”
Drennan said now that the issue with FPL has been resolved, she and her family can focus on repairing their home.
