Woman faces child endangerment charges after baby falls, tests positive for cocaine
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Jefferson City woman has been charged with three felonies after a 3-week-old baby fell and allegedly tested positive for multiple drugs.
Tayvian Brown was charged on Wednesday with three counts of child endangerment. A no-bond warrant was issued on Wednesday and she was not listed on the Cole County Jail’s online roster.
The probable cause statement says Brown left a 3-week-old girl and 3-year-old girl in the care of her 9-year-old daughter on June 17.
The 9-year-old placed the 3-week-old in a seat while she went to use the restroom, and she saw the baby on the floor when she returned, the statement says. The baby had to be brought to MU Children’s Hospital by ambulance. The 9-year-old allegedly told authorities that it was not the first time she looked after those two children, the statement says.
The statement says Missouri Children’s Division conducted a separate investigation of the incident and did a hair drug test on each child. The 9-year-old and 3-year-old allegedly tested positive for THC and cocaine, while the 3-week-old tested positive for amphetamines and cocaine, court documents allege.
