Las Cruces High School Lady Bulldogs look to extend dynasty run
LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KVIA) — After over 40 years into his time as the Las Cruces High School Volleyball coach, Keith Leupold is still winning. He hasn’t lost a game since 2023.
In that time, the Bulldawgs have won three consecutive state championships in 2023, 2024, and 2025 — with the last two capping perfect 27-0 seasons.
The team’s streak now stands at 59 after winning the first two matches of the season, defending home court against Franklin High School and Santa Fe High School.
According to Maxpreps, this is the second longest active winning streak by a high school volleyball team in the nation right now.
Coach Leupold told ABC-7 he maintains a winning culture by focusing on reloading instead of rebuilding.
This year’s team of Bulldawgs is led by seniors who have been a part of this period of winning from the beginning. Lyza Jackson and Ava Price are now captains of the team.
When talking about the winning streak, Jackson said the team doesn’t try to think about it going into every game and instead takes things one game at a time.
Jackson also said her personal favorite championship run of the three was last year’s because of the overall bond and chemistry the team had since they had played together for years at that point.
Neither of the captains nor coach Leupold predicted a fourth consecutive title for the team this year.
Leupold did say he has his eye on the La Cueva Bears from Albuquerque, who they beat in the championship last year.
