Authorities investigate infant’s death in Otero County
OTERO COUNTY, N.M. (KVIA) — The Otero County Sheriff’s Office is helping with an investigation into an infant’s death, it said Monday.
On Aug. 21, a mother told 911 her newborn child was unresponsive, the sheriff’s office said. The Tularosa Basin Regional Dispatch Authority received the call.
The mother’s partner performed CPR while first responders were on their way.
Upon arrival, Otero County Sheriff’s Office deputies continued CPR until medical responders arrived.
The infant was transported to a medical center where emergency room staff performed lifesaving measures. The infant died, according to the sheriff’s office.
Investigators said there are no indications of foul play and no charges have been filed.
The 12th Judicial District Major Crimes Unit is investigating the infant’s death. The task force includes investigators from the Otero County Sheriff’s Office, Alamogordo Police Department, 12th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, Ruidoso Police Department and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
