COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

City of Columbia will be having its monthly ‘Let’s Talk Local’ from 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday about the proposed transmission lines project.

City Councilwomen Betsy Peters (Ward 6) and Christina Hartmann (Ward 5) will attend the meeting at the Columbia Sports Fieldhouse at 4251 Philips Farm Road.

This meeting follows the City of Columbia’s discussion on hosting a set of meetings about the transmission line project that was delayed after residents’ concerns in 2015.

Concerns came from not wanting high-power lines near residents. The lines will run through Scott Boulevard south to Vawter School Road, then east along the Vawter School-Nifong-Grindstone corridor.

If the project is approved, it is estimated to cost $35 million and take roughly eight-to-10 years to complete, the city stated in previous reporting.

Members of the public are encouraged to join the event, and there will be a public comment section during the meeting.
