Amazon Soars, Tech Stocks Advance, Earnings Continue

Washington (Quincy News) — Market Recap: Amazon hit a $3 trillion market cap after strong earnings boosted investor confidence. Founder Jeff Bezos filed to sell roughly $4 billion of Amazon shares. The S&P 500 gained 1.48%, the Nasdaq rose 2.1%, and the Dow added 1.32%.
Oil settled lower Monday after President Trump paused planned strikes against Iran and said negotiations were moving forward. WTI crude fell 5.1% to $80.34 a barrel, while Brent crude dropped 4.7% to $83.77. Treasury yields on the 2-year, 10-year and 30-year all wrapped the day down between 4 and 7 basis points.
Manufacturers responding to the Institute for Supply Management’s July manufacturing survey cited rising input costs and the ongoing Iran war among their long-term concerns.
Today’s Focus: Investors will be watching whether Monday’s technology-led rally carries into Tuesday. June JOLTS job openings and factory orders are both due at 10 a.m. ET, giving an early read on the labor market ahead of Friday’s July employment report. Earnings from McDonald’s, Merck and AMD offer a snapshot of consumer spending, healthcare demand and corporate investment.
