Washington (Quincy News) — Market Recap: Stocks fell Monday after President Trump announced a blockade on Iranian shipping, posting on Truth Social that the U.S. would impose a 20% fee on all cargo transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The Nasdaq closed down 1.55% (-408.43), the S&P fell 0.79% (-60.05) and the Dow Jones was down 0.26% (-138.37). Yields on 10-year Treasury bonds climbed to around 4.59% and 2-year yields rose to roughly 4.25%, reflecting growing expectations of a rate hike later this year.
Today’s Focus: Three major events land Tuesday morning. June CPI is due at 8:30 a.m. ET and that’s the number the Fed is watching ahead of its July 28-29 meeting. At 10:00 a.m. ET, Fed Chair Kevin Warsh testifies before the House Financial Services Committee for the first time. JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo, and Citigroup all report second-quarter earnings before the open.
