Washington (Quincy News) — Market Recap
AI and chips drove steady growth Monday. The S&P closed up 0.72% at 7,537.43, the NASDAQ rose 1.12% to 26,121.16 and the Dow Jones ended up 0.29% at 53,055.91. WTI crude settled at $68.78 per barrel. Samsung Electronics reported stronger-than-expected Q2 2026 earnings Monday (89.4 trillion won, roughly $58.4 billion) but the strong performance conversely drove a sell-off in Samsung stock amid long-term concerns about the AI market.
Today’s Focus
SpaceX joins the NASDAQ-100 today, a move expected to drive high trading volume. Samsung’s earnings and pre-market sell-offs could drive another tech sell-off today. Meanwhile, uncertainty over the status of the Iran war and the Strait of Hormuz continues to impact oil prices, with Brent crude trading around $73 per barrel. World leaders are also gathering for the NATO summit in Turkey, where discussions on defense spending, Ukraine, and security will be watched closely for any implications for energy markets.
