IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) — The Idaho Falls community is mourning the loss of a beloved local figure whose passion quite literally lit up the town every Independence Day.

Dr. Derek Campbell, a local surgeon and family medicine doctor, died Friday, June 3rd, without warning.

Beyond his work as a doctor, Campbell was an alumnus of Idaho State University. He was also a teacher at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center’s medical residency program, who had a profound impact on training upcoming physicians. However, to those close to him, he was first and foremost a devoted husband and a loving father to his two daughters.

Dr. Campbell was well-known throughout his community for his love of the 4th of July holiday. For years, his spectacular fireworks shows brought neighbors together to create lasting memories, leaving behind a bright legacy that will not soon be forgotten.
