UNION, South Carolina (WYFF) — Three employees at a Wendy’s fast-food restaurant in Union, South Carolina, have been accused of spitting in a customer’s food and serving it after it had been in the trash.
The incident allegedly happened on May 30 at the Wendy’s at 509 North Duncan Bypass.
According to the incident report, a woman stated that she had ordered food in the Wendy’s drive-thru. After receiving her food, she informed employees that there was something wrong with the order. Staff took the order back and the woman asked for a refund. She also asked for a receipt after she was not given one when she paid for her meal.
The woman claims that staff said that they would remake the food. The woman said that as she left the store with the “remade” order, she began to eat when she received a call from someone at the store telling her not to eat the food.
The woman told police that the caller told her that someone had spit in the food and removed it from the trash can. She said that she then looked at the food she was given as a “remade order” and discovered it was the food she first received. She did not tell police who had called her from the store.
The victim told police that she called the store back and spoke with a manager on duty, who said they spoke with employees who backed the alleged food tampering. She was told by the general manager of the location that the employees responsible were written up for the incident.
As a result of the investigation, 33-year-old Crystal Shadela Holley, 19-year-old Trinity Lashell Rice, and 23-year-old Aaliyah Shuntai Sanders were charged with tampering with a food item.
According to the arrest warrants, the trio allegedly grabbed the food from the trash can and had it rewrapped before giving the food back to the customer.
Rice was arrested on June 16 and booked into the Union County Jail under a $20,000 bond.
Sanders was taken into custody on June 17.
Holley was arrested on June 22 and received a $20,000 bond.
No other details have been released at this time.
