HAMILTON COUNTY, Ohio (WLWT) — The man accused of killing three people in a shooting in Millvale over the weekend was given a $3 million bond in his first court appearance Thursday.

James Lewis, 62, was arrested in connection with a shooting late Saturday night in the 2100 block of Millvale Court.

Three people—Kenneth Burton, 38; Brenea Burton, 41; and Theresa Dudley, 53—were killed as a result of the shooting. Lewis has been charged with murder for each of their deaths.

Officers found one victim at the scene, then located two more a block away.

In court Thursday, prosecutors said Lewis wasn’t allowed to have guns because of a conviction for aggravated robbery in 1984. He served 25 years for that offense.

His attorney said Lewis has had “a very limited record recently.”

An officer called the shooting “heinous” and “easily prevented.” Prosecutor Megan Ferguson additionally called Lewis’ history “concerning.”

Officials said a birthday party was being held for one of the victims. An argument began in the kitchen, where Lewis shot and killed two people.

An officer said that after that, the third victim ran out and screamed for help before Lewis chased her down, caught up to her, and shot her.

Judge Donte Johnson gave Lewis a $1 million secured bond on each count, for a total of $3 million.
