MANCHESTER, New Hampshire (WMUR) — A man suspected of shooting at two public works employees in Manchester has been arrested, police said.
Sean Day, 32, has been charged with two counts of first-degree assault after two Manchester Department of Public Works employees were injured in a shooting Thursday.
Police said the employees were walking in the area of Manchester and Union streets at about 9:20 a.m. when Day approached them.
A single shot hit both victims, but their injuries were not considered to be life-threatening. They were treated at a hospital and released.
Police said Day knew one of the workers, but the motive for the shooting is still under investigation.
Resident Bryanna Blodgett said she moved into her home about a block away from the shooting five years ago. Since then, she said she has watched it change, and not for the better.
“It’s not safe for kids, you know what I mean?” she said.
Blodgett said she believes some sort of violent crime like this happens in the neighborhood every other month. She said she doesn’t see police around as much as they’re needed.
“I feel like they should be around more because it’s crazy over here,” she said. “They’re worried about the shelter, but they should be worrying about all the kids getting shot out here or getting hit by cars and stuff like that. But it’s crazy.”
She said she and her family are considering moving out of the city.
The DPW suspended its services Thursday and closed the drop-off facility. Manchester Water Works also closed its business office on Lincoln Street for the day. It will be back open Monday after the Juneteenth federal holiday on Friday.
Police said the shooting was not random, and there was no danger to the public.
