Carlos Dominguez retrial examines police interrogation and testimony

YOLO COUNTY, California (KCRA) — Jurors reviewed police interrogation footage and heard testimony Tuesday during the retrial of Carlos Dominguez, who is accused of fatally stabbing two men and injuring a woman in Davis in 2023.
The day began with another video of Dominguez’s police interrogation from May 2023. The defense questioned Davis Police Officer Steve Ramos about the nature of his inquiries during the interrogation.
The defense also pressed Ramos about his 2021 demotion within the Davis Police Department, raising questions about the integrity of the investigation.
Jurors then heard testimony from Dominguez’s ex-girlfriend, who spoke about the progression of their relationship.
When asked if she knew Dominguez to own a knife, she said, “Not that I can remember.”
She was also asked whether Dominguez had expressed any issues with transients or homeless people.
On Monday, jurors spent four hours watching footage of Dominguez’s May 3, 2023, police interrogation following his arrest. During much of the interview, Dominguez remained silent, offering one-word responses. Interrogators questioned him about the victims and the alleged murder weapon.
In Dominguez’s first trial, jurors found him not guilty of first-degree murder but were deadlocked on other charges. Yolo County prosecutors are now pursuing second-degree murder charges.
